The design of the puppet actually came to me in a dream, in which I was watching a non-existent episode of The Jim Henson Hour called "The Importance of Dragons." The title card was accompanied by this incredible puppet, a diaphanous reddish creature simultaneously reminiscent of a tropical nudibranch, flowing wine, and a Paul Jenkins painting. I woke up and said, "Someone should build that puppet. ...Hey, I should build that puppet!" This is the original sketch based on that dream, showing not only how the character looks but also some of the different ways he can move. The colour suggestions you see here were quickly abandoned.
