I was trained in science, not art, so when I approach a complex shot my instinct is to do a lot of measurements and mathematics. A lot of the photos in this series have been of complicated setups that were all in the service of obtaining a single measurement. But all the numbers are useful because they tell me exactly what to do to make the shot look the way I want it to.
These are some of the numbers and calculations that will be involved in the shot of Moss' legs walking on grass. Stride length, distance between grooves, maximum height of feet off ground, camera placement and angle, size of field of view, number of steps per minute -- it's all here.
